Aldi is Combining Our Love For Booze and Cheese This St. Patrick's Day

When Saint Patrick’s Day rolls around each year we stock our cupboard with soda bread, our fridges with beer, and our slow cookers with hunks of radioactive-pink corned beef. But this year, Aldi wants us to celebrate in a different way — with one of their five new Irish-themed cheeses. Um, you don’t have to ask us twice, Aldi!

The collection includes three Irish cheeses, one English cheese, and a Pesto Gouda of indeterminate origin.

The Pesto Gouda is green and flavored with basil and garlic, and the English Sage Derby is a mild cheese that’s also green and is flavored with sage.

If Green cheese wasn’t festive enough, two of the Irish cheese flavors are infused with booze. There’s Irish Cheddar with Irish Beer, described as “a rich and creamy aged cheddar with the nutty taste of Irish Beer,” Irish Cheddar with Irish Whiskey (“an aged cheddar with a rich full flavor”), and a simple classic Aged Irish Cheddar, “a rich and creamy aged cheddar with a tangy taste.”

Each of the cheeses will be available starting February 27th, and better yet they all retail for just $3.99. Sliced and served with bread and crackers, melted into a hangover-curing mac and cheese, or grated and stirred into a hot pot of colcannon, you know we’ll be stocking our fridge with at least a couple of these new cheeses.

If you’re cheese-averse and still looking for a way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day, Aldi has a whole host of products to check out. There’s Village Bakery Irish Cream Cheesecake, L’oven Fresh Irish Soda Bread (perfect to pair with some of your new cheese!), O’Shea’s Irish Stout, and more.

Either way, it seems like this year, the best way to get into the spirit of the season is to bypass the bar altogether in favor of a trip to everyone’s favorite discount grocery store. Or, you know, right before you hit up the bar.
