Gisele Bündchen Says Panic Attacks Transformed Her Diet

As you’re about to dive face first into a slice of pizza, you might briefly wonder how those incredibly fit supermodels are able to keep such a pristine figure. Gisele Bündchen, formerly the highest paid supermodel in the world, had some seriously unhealthy eating habits during her earlier modeling days. She admits that through the years, several factors have played a role in shaping her current diet. And she specifically cites panic attacks for being a significant reason she changed that diet.

Bündchen eats primarily a whole-food, plant-based diet

Bündchen and her husband, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, have a very strict diet. They eat mostly plant-based foods, and Bündchen has said in the past that she only eats meat twice per month. The average breakfast for Bündchen, according to her book Lessons: My Path to a Meaningful Life, might consist of avocado toast or gluten free bread with almond butter. She also infuses many of her foods with spices, such as turmeric and ginger, according to Bravo.

In her earlier modeling days, she ate cheeseburgers and smoked cigarettes

Bündchen didn’t always have the healthiest outlook on life. She admitted that in her earlier modeling days, she’d often rely on cheeseburgers and cigarettes. She ate unhealthy foods frequently, and there was a time when she would drink an entire bottle of wine in one day. But she always felt sluggish afterward, and knew the ability to anything she wanted at any time wouldn’t last as she got older.

She says her metabolism has slowed down, forcing her to change up her diet

Bündchen is now in her late 30s, and her metabolism isn’t what it used to be. It has slowed down, and she admitted in her book that the slower metabolism was a driving factor in her changing up her diet. The days of eating cheeseburgers and drinking wine without gaining a pound had come to a close, forcing Bündchen to reevaluate her dietary habits. But Bündchen says she does not call her eating habits a “diet.” Instead, she refers to them just as healthy eating habits. She believes that term helps her feel more mentally clear, and the food regimen helps her keep a high energy level.

Bündchen also credits panic attacks for changing the way she sees food

In addition to a slower metabolism, Bündchen credits panic attacks for playing a role in the foods she eats today. Despite being one of the most well-known supermodels in the world, Bündchen still battled severe anxiety that left her feeling “powerless.” She said she often suffered panic attacks and dealt with suicidal thoughts at the height of her modeling career.

Bündchen turned to doctors for advice and made changes that spun her entire life around. She went from drinking heavily and eating whatever she wanted to focusing on a healthier lifestyle, specifically with her diet. According to People, she cut out sugar and took up yoga, both of which helped her find clarity in her mind. Although she felt lost in those panic attacks, they were another major factor in turning her dietary life around, which will only help her remain healthy and happy in the long run.
