Ina Garten Revealed Her Dream Dinner Party Guest List

Without a doubt, Barefoot Contessa‘s Ina Garten and her husband Jeffrey Garten are on our (and likely everyone else’s) dream dinner party guest list. But who’s on Ina’s? We could speculate for days, but now we don’t have to — because Ina revealed her list, and her pal Taylor Swift is on it, among two other incredible women.

At the 20th New Yorker Festival at the New York Society for Ethical Culture on Oct. 12, Ina was asked her dream dinner party guest list, which could include guests dead or alive, and she named three powerful women we would want at our own dinner party, as well: Swift, Julia Child, and Michelle Obama.

The fact Ina chose three women isn’t surprising; Ina has always supported and championed women. And, more recently, she even created an entire cooking playlist of women who rock, including several of Swift’s hits.

“The first thing I do when I start cooking is crank up the tunes — it really gets my creative juices flowing!” Garten wrote on her website. “I’m sharing one of my go-to cooking playlists that I call ‘Women Who Rock’ – it’s a compilation of lots of my favorite songs by female artists. I hope you love it!”

During an interview with the Huffington Post in October 2018, Garten spoke highly of her pal Swift, saying: “She’s very smart and very interesting and she loves her friends. She is wise beyond her years to say the least.” And Swift is just as enamored with Ina. Back in May, Swift revealed in a piece she penned for ELLE her three go-to dinner party recipes, one of them being Ina’s “Real Meatballs and Spaghetti” dish.

Child, on the other hand, is Ina’s biggest culinary inspiration. “She really taught me how to cook through her cookbooks,” Garten told TODAY in 2017. “I learned how to make hollandaise sauce the right way, and then she showed me how to make it the quick way without losing any of the quality.”

And as for Obama, she appeared on an episode of Barefoot Contessa that aired in November 2017. The two sipped tea and shared their admiration for each other.

“Thank you for your great work, the model that you set,” Obama told Garten during the episode. Garten replied: “You’ve inspired girls all over the world, including me, so thank you.”
