We Tried Starbucks’ Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and It’s So Much Better Than the PSL

Not to throw shade at the PSL or anything, but I can’t understand drinking a piping-hot latte in 90-degree August heat. So when Starbucks announced its latest launch, a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, I was more than a little psyched. Finally! I can celebrate fall way too prematurely with the rest of society!

ICYMI, both the Pumpkin Spice Latte and Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew arrived on menus nationwide August 27. And the latter addition is the first pumpkin-flavored drink to debut in 16 years. Technically, there was a Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Latte a few years back, but it was never *officially* added to menus, so we’re not counting it, okay?

Here’s the gist: It’s pretty similar to that Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew we all know and love but with a pumpkin cream foam instead. They froth the vanilla sweet cream and toss in some pumpkin spice for the effect. There’s some pumpkin spice, cinnamon, and nutmeg sprinkled on top too. So it’s a full fall affair.

I marched on over to my nearest location bright and early this morning with a mission in mind: Get my hands on that cold brew. I’m typically a boring ol’ black coffee kinda gal, but I make the occasional exception come September. It would be wrong not to indulge now and again.

I ordered up a few PCCBs (not quite the same ring as PSL, but go with it), and let me just tell you, they looked GOOD. The cold brew was perfectly separated from that heavenly orange foam. I was going to save my first momentous sip for when I arrived back at the office, but let’s be honest, I’ve got zero patience. I couldn’t wait.

After a few minutes, it kind of all swirls together. You still get that rich, strong cold brew flavor but with a soothing sweet finish. And while, sure, I’ll need a Pumpkin Spice Latte at some point to keep warm, I’m a complete and total convert. Forget the PSL, people.
