Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed doughnut is perfect just the way it is. But if there was ever a way to make it even more irresistible, it’s cream filling — and Krispy Kreme has done just that. Introducing, the cream-filled Original Glazed doughnut, created to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, which took place on July 20.
Described as “out of this world,” Krispy Kreme’s new original filled doughnut comes in two flavors, Classic Kreme and Chocolate Kreme. These new creations aren’t limited-edition menu items, either; they will be permanently available in the U.S. starting today. And as a “thank you” to the customers who helped Krispy Kreme meet its goal of giving away one million doughnuts on National Doughnut Day this year, Krispy Kreme is giving away these new cream-filled Original Glazed doughnuts for free on June 22.
“Krispy Kreme was at the launch of Apollo 11, serving fresh doughnuts to Americans witnessing liftoff of this monumental mission. As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we want to give our fans a new taste experience that is out of this world,” says Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer, in a press release.
The cream-filled Original Glazed doughnuts follow the limited release of four new chocolate-glazed doughnuts earlier this year. Krispy Kreme’s Chocolate Glaze Collection included cake batter, raspberry-filled, chocolate-iced Kreme-filled and Oreo Cookies & Kreme doughnuts — all topped with complementary icing and garnish.
