There are a lot of cooking oils that claim to be the best.
However, when considering which to choose, it’s important to think about the major factors that influence how an oil reacts to high temperatures – including the oxidative stability and ratio of monounsaturated fats.
This is when one such oil comes out tops and leading health experts agree that extra virgin olive oil is number one.
For centuries olive oil has been widely recognised as one of the world’s healthiest oils.
In fact, people tend to live longer and healthier lives in regions where olive oil is a staple part of their diet.
When it comes to the highest quality of oil out there, extra virgin olive oil is tops. The oil is the highest quality olive oil available.
It is extracted from the olive fruit without the use of any heat or chemicals.
What the study say?
Studies have shown that cooking with extra virgin olive oil can help increase the nutrient content of food eaten.
This is because the antioxidants in olive oil are so resistant to high heat that they don’t break down and instead end up being absorbed by the cooked food.
In a study with the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, the effects of stir-fry cooking with different edible oils was analysed.
The study involved using the oils on different broccoli to see how it reacted. When the broccoli was cooked with sunflower oil or even refined olive oil, several beneficial compounds in the broccoli (such as vitamin C) were reduced.
However, when cooked in extra virgin olive oil, the levels of those beneficial compounds remained unchanged.

What the experts say?
Medical consultant Dr Sarah Brewer and dietician Juliette Kellow said in their book Eat better live longer that extra virgin olive oil can add years to one’s life.
They added that the oil contains antioxidants which could help to prevent or slow down cancer growth and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes which are the world’s biggest killers.
Experts strongly suggest eating one tablespoon of the oil to add years to your life and increase life expectancy.
Extra virgin olive oil contains a lot of vitamin E which maintains healthy skin and eyes and strengthens the immune system.
Cancer and heart disease, which olive oil is thought to reduce the risk of, are two of the biggest killers of people worldwide.
One in three people in the UK will get cancer at some point in there life.
Dr Brewer added: “A review of studies found people with the highest intakes of olive oil compares with the lowest intakes were 34 percent less likely to have any type of cancer.
“And particularly breast cancer.”
