More than a year of pandemic living has put a lot of people’s bodies through the ringer. While we’ve tried to cope as best as possible—quickly improvising home gyms, raiding the pantry for easy-to-cook meals, turning playgrounds into workout equipment—it’s almost inevitable that this strange time would lead to major changes in body shape. But even if 2020 derailed your fitness goals, it’s never too late to get back on track. Just ask J-Lo’s former paramour, Alex Rodriguez.
The 45-year-old retired shortstop and businessman recently posted a before and after pic on his Instagram account. The first shot, taken in December 2020, showed A-Rod posing in a yard, wearing a monochrome tan sweater set, white sneakers, and aviators. The after photo, taken in April 2021, featured him with a much slimmer look, thanks in part to a more stylish outfit of fitted shirt and tailored pants.
Rodriguez captioned the photo, “Left the Dad-bod in 2020. 💪🏽.” It’s hard to tell just how much of a dad bod the former professional athlete ever had, given the layers of clothing in the first photo, but there’s no denying he looks more stylish in the second. (Even if his facial expression suggests someone squinting at the neighbor’s dog who just wandered into his yard to take a dump.)

“Anyone else determined to stick with their fitness goals this year? I’ve been consistent with my workouts and finally put down the chips,” his caption continued.
Rodriguez received plenty of compliments in the comments, including a line of fire emojis from Terry Crews. Sadly, the post was light on details about A-Rod’s actual workouts, but just last year he and J-Lo shared their favorite at-home workout for people with nicknames riffing on their first initial and a shortened version of their last names.
