Twitter Reacts to the Unexpected IHOP Name Change (Spoiler: Fans Aren't Happy About It)

Many fans think IHOP is having a bit of an identity crisis. The restaurant announced it was temporarily changing its name from International House of Pancakes (IHOP) to International House of Burgers (IHOb). Although the people at IHOP seemed excited, not everyone took the news well. Apparently, not everyone got the memo that the change wasn’t permanent. Fans immediately flocked to Twitter, so they could express their frustration and anger.

Here’s how the people of Twitter reacted to the unexpected IHOP name change.

Some suspect IHOP is admitting defeat

Some Twitter users think IHOP is changing its focus because it’s facing stiff competition from other restaurants with a breakfast theme. Writer Rembert Browne is convinced the restaurant has been preparing for the possibility of being crushed by the competition. “IHOP has been putting A1 in the condiment basket for decades now, slowly preparing us for this historic moment when they admit breakfast defeat to waffle house,” joked Browne.

Here’s what she had to say after the big announcement was made: “I have defended and supported you for years and then you go and embarrass me like this @IHOb?”

Chrissy Teigen wasn’t thrilled about the news of IHOP turning its focus toward burgers. She turned to her Twitter followers to let off some steam. “IHOb sure loves going all in on one food item,” wrote the  model. She then followed up with this tweet: “IHOb is the guy who gets a face tattoo of the girl’s name after 1 date.”

The folks over at IHOb couldn’t resist replying to Teigen and not-so-subtly throwing in a John Legend reference. Replied the social media person at IHOb: “All in is all we know. Come try one if you want a new legend in your life.”

Like that, but our cheeseburgers are still better.”
