In classic Chrissy Teigen fashion, the model and mum-of-two has taken to Twitter to ask for help in dealing with a common breastfeeding side effect – prominent veins.
The 32-year-old – who is currently nursing her new son Myles – shared a video of her chest with the caption “help”.
“Please look at my veins going to my milky boobs,” she pleads in the footage. “What is this?”
As disturbing as some might find the situation, fortunately it’s totally normal.
Noticeable veins around the chest are common in breastfeeding women, especially when breasts are engorged with milk.
There’s a number of reasons why you might be seeing a new, blue road map on your body. More blood flow is required to make breast milk, plus your breasts expanded to accomodate said milk making the skin in thinner and more transparent.
Ob-gyn Christine Greves told Health that’s it’s also attributed to elevated levels of the hormone progesterone, which causes blood vessel dilation.
“There’s nothing we can really do about it,” says Dr. Greves. “She’s breastfeeding and hopefully when she stops the breastfeeding, there will be less blood flow, and then it should be better.”
