Gigi Hadid Opens Up About The Thyroid Disease She’s Suffered From For 2 Years

Gigi Hadid gets a lot of praise and compliments but she has faced a lot of scrutiny about her appearance, not only for being too big but also for being too small.

The supermodel turned heads walking the Victoria’s Secret runway in 2016, but has revealed that keeping her body in shape for the show wasn’t as simple as a good diet and exercise.

In a panel for Reebok’s #PerfectNever campaign she revealed that she suffers from an autoimmune disease. “My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year. I have Hashimoto’s disease.”

Hashimoto’s disease is where the thyroid gland (which controls your metabolism) is either too active and burns everything or sluggish and not active enough. Symptoms of the disease include weight fluctuation, sluggishness, depression, muscle weakness and joint pain.

“It’s been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good.”

The 21-year-old also revealed that her least favourite workout move are squats! “They’re painful, and you have to do so many for them to work. Recently for the VS show, I put a sticky note in my kitchen, and every time I walked past the squats sticky note, I had to do 15 squats. Its a good trick because it reminds you that you have to have integrity with yourself. No one else is watching, so I have to just do it for myself.”
