Chicago is soon to be the home of a U.S. Pizza Museum. The Chicago Tribune reports the museum will open Friday in Chicago’s South Loop at the Roosevelt Collection, and will stay open through October at the earliest. Its founder says the 3,000-square-foot museum will feature a curated collection of pizza memorabilia like boxes, menus, and toys that track the rise of pizza-making in the United States.
Technically, the museum has been around since 2015, but mainly online and in pop-ups. Now, it’s a permanent cultural fixture that you’ll just NEED to visit. Admission to the museum is free, though you need to reserve a space ahead of time. And fair warning: There’s no pizza restaurant in the museum. However, there’s a Lou Malnati’s just blocks away. Go there.
While this is all good news and definitely a win for pizza lovers in the country, some people weren’t too happy that Chicago, the home of casserole-crusted ‘za, should claim the U.S. Pizza Museum and not New York, where dollar slices of thin crust rule the sidewalks.
