We never thought we’d see the day when we could literally go to the drive through to get our cannabis fix (usually that’s where we stop after the fact), but this April 20 (4/20, *ahem*) Carl’s Jr. is changing all that. That’s because at one of their locations in Denver, Colo., they’ll be serving up burgers that are topped with a CBD-infused Santa Fe Sauce.
The Rocky Mountain High Cheese Burger Delight sounds like a truly epic 4/20 snack. It features two juicy grilled beef patties topped with pickled jalapenos, waffle fries, pepper jack cheese, and the aforementioned Santa Fe Sauce, which will contain about 5 mg of CBD. The burger will be sold for $4.20 at the Denver location at 4050 Colorado Blvd. only (starting at 6 a.m. for those early risers), sad news for those of us in other states where legalized recreational marijuana and Carl’s Jr. coexist.
For those not in the know, CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in marijuana (meaning it doesn’t get you high – the chemical that causes that feeling is THC). It’s thought that CBD can help reduce inflammation, alleviate symptoms of anxiety, and relieve pain.
Feel like you’ve been seeing cannabis and CBD mentioned pretty much everywhere recently? You’re not alone.
A lot of the current cannabis craze has to do with accessibility — now that it’s recreationally and medically legal in so many places, it’s just easier to get ahold of in a safe way. No more late night meet-ups with your uncle’s buddy “Crazy Chester” when you want to get your hands on some of the good stuff so you can re-watch Alice in Wonderland in the “right” state of mind. Oh, Crazy Chester, we hope you’re doing well out there.
If you can’t make it to Denver this year on 4/20, there may be hope yet — if this year’s CBD-infused burger is a success, maybe they’ll branch out for next year’s celebration. In the meantime, perhaps some experimentation in your own home kitchen is in order. One of these unique cheeseburger recipes could be the perfect vehicle for a cannabis infusion.
