Chocolate chip cookies are pretty much the gold standard around here when it comes to our usual baking escapades. There’s just something about that buttery, brown-sugar filled dough and the bittersweet chocolate chips or chunks that never fails to please. But sometimes, even we get a little bored of this classic treat, so we’re always excited to see a recipe that puts a new spin on our old favorite. Case in point? Chrissy Teigen’s recipe for Chex Mix Chocolate Chip Cookies on her Cravings website.
For one thing, we always have extra Chex mix on hand, whether it’s because we’re making big batches and have it leftover from holiday parties, or because it’s one of our go-to gas station road trip snacks. Then, there’s the fact that Chex mix adds a variety of crunchy textures to your cookies along with a hit of salt to balance out all of that sweetness, and it suddenly becomes apparent that adding Chex mix to your chocolate chip cookies is a very good idea.
Adding Chex mix to your chocolate chip cookies also doesn’t require you to learn any fancy new baking skills — literally all you have to do is add Chex mix to your bowl of cookie dough and sprinkle some on top of your cookies. How easy is that?
Teigen uses traditional Chex mix in her recipe, but there are several different flavors of the mix that would be delicious in cookies. They now even have sweet and salty flavors like Turtle, Trail Mix, Dark Chocolate, and Honey Nut, if you’d still like your cookies to be a little more on the sweet side of life.
Nothing beats the smell of a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven, but we’re guessing that adding Chex mix to our mixing bowl just might do the trick.
