We Tried Trader Joe's Valentine's Day Treats & One Really Stood Out as the Best

Last month we learned that Trader Joe’s was releasing new treats just in time for Valentine’s Day. One of our favorite Instagram accounts, @TraderJoesObsessed was the first to spot some of the new love-themed items on Trader Joe’s shelves. As soon as Trader Joe’s stocked up the rest of their Valentine’s Day goodies, we ran to the nearest store and grabbed as many as we could. Now, we’ve tried lots of Trader Joe’s products before (we really loved their holiday appetizers and sweet treats) but the new Valentine’s Day collection really stands out as extra special.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, this is the collection for you because everything is extra sweet and we’re not complaining about it. It makes sense that Trader Joe’s left out the savory items for this year’s Valentine’s Day-themed goodies and opted for the more honeyed-up treats (it is the most affectionate holiday after all). While we enjoyed all of Trader Joe’s offerings, there was one item so delicious we wish it would be made available year-round because it’s simply too good to only be eaten once a year. But before we get to that item, let’s take a look at all of the other treats that are still totally worth buying.

Mini Heart Cookies

Trader Joe’s comes out with a version of this cookie every holiday. It’s a chocolate-covered shortbread cookie covered in sprinkles. What’s not to love?

Chocolate Lava Cakes

Lava cakes may be the most iconic Valentine’s Day dessert. For a microwaveable version, I had no complaints. It would be better paired with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream but you’re not going to find an easier dessert than this.

Raspberry Hearts

I love Linzer cookies (Ina Garten’s are my favorite). These were a bit thicker than most, but still tasted great.

EveryDaisies

I loved that these were coated with sugar crystals instead of sugar icing. The icing is usually too sweet for me but the sugar crystals gave them a nice crunch and the cookies themselves were nice and moist.

Chocolate Cupcakes

These cupcakes are gluten-free but you would never know it by tasting them. Honestly, these were probably the best store-bought cupcakes I have ever tried!

Dark Chocolate Cherries

You pretty much get what you expect with these. They taste just like all other chocolate-covered cherries and are a great mid-day snack.

Raspberry Rose

Although this is absolutely gorgeous, this was probably my least favorite item. It’s white chocolate and it was just so sweet without a lot of flavor. But if you’re a white chocolate fan then you’ll probably love this.

Belgian Chocolate Hearts

Soft and creamy on the inside, these sweet little hearts make a cute little classroom gift or surprise for a coworker. And at only $1.49 a piece, you might as well pick up a few extras to pass out!

Chocolate Mousse Cake

And here we have it — the Trader Joe’s Valentine’s Day item I’ll be stockpiling in my freezer this week because I need to make this deliciousness last as long as possible. I wasn’t expecting much from this cake. Store-bought cakes have never impressed me but the thick ganache coating seals in all of the cake’s moisture and each delicious layer of cake is pillowed between generous heaps of perfectly light and airy mousse. If you only splurge on one Valentine’s Day treat at Trader Joe’s this year, let this be it. You won’t regret one single bite.
