Better EHR training in the working environment?

Healthcare experts from HIMSS, NHS trusts and ANCILE Solutions will participate in a webinar next week to discuss the current challenges in EHR training and how to overcome them.

One of the most important factors in determining whether an EPR system, or other large software project in a hospital, succeeds is successful user adoption or utilisation.

Clinicians are expected to master the user interface and new workflows of an EPR system following training. However, studies show that following initial training, retention rates can drop by up to 70% within just 24 hours.

Constraints on training teams and clinical users mean that training content cannot be absorbed quickly enough for most users to become proficient from day one. This can lead to factors that cause clinical risk.

Previously, there was no clear alternative to instructor-led training when inducting new staff or preparing existing clinicians for major system changes, taking them away once more from their patients. Now new technology is being harnessed to help users learn new systems while they work.

Delivering training and knowledge to users as they need it

Deploying a major healthcare IT system is a significant undertaking, so it is important to deliver training and knowledge to users as they need it. Hospitals report that staff, who have been through traditional training sessions, may still struggle to use IT systems on a day-to-day basis, and that this puts pressure on help-desks or leads to sub-optimal ‘work-arounds’.

ANCILE Solutions, which offers a range of learning material, such as quick reference guides, videos and interactive simulations, says that uPerform for Healthcare can reduce help-desk calls and ensure that staff are using clinical systems correctly, enabling them to acquire digital confidence.

Rethink your digital healthcare training

The free webinar, “Rethink your digital healthcare training with uPerform by ANCILE Solutions”, is on Thursday, 22 October 2020, 2:00 PM BST (3:00 PM CEST).

Its panel consists of Charles Alessi, Chief Clinical Officer HIMSS International, Cindy Fedell, Executive Chief Digital and Information Officer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Andy Kinnear, former Director of Digital Transformation at NHS South Central and West Commissioning Support Unit, and Bobby Zarr, Senior Director of Healthcare at ANCILE Solutions.

They will review clinical workforce training for mature deployment or a new go-live. ANCILE, who works with several US hospitals, will explain how new solutions can support software adoption, advance digital maturity, and deliver on the promise of technology to support better care for patients.

Join the webinar to discover more about solutions, which could help address the digital training challenges faced by the NHS and healthcare organisations internationally, as they look to build on the advances in digital adoption made during the coronavirus crisis.
