A Sex Pillow Might Be The Best Way To Totally Revamp Your Sex Life

Have you heard of a little tool called a “sex pillow”? No, it’s nothing like Leslie Knope’s Daniel-Craig shaped “man pillow.” (You know, for her back?)

A sex pillow is something totally different—and there’s a solid chance it totally revolutionise your sex life. Here, experts explain the ins-and-outs of these pillows.

WHAT IS A SEX PILLOW?

A sex pillow is usually a firm “pillow” that’s angled like a ramp, but it also comes in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on your preference. As you can probably guess, it’s made to be used during sex, and there are a few major reasons why people go for them.

A big one is to get deeper penetration, says sex therapist Debra Laino. You place the sex pillow under your thighs to angle your pelvis and butt up, letting your partner go deeper. If your partner is on the smaller side, this is definitely an option to consider. “They can go deeper because of the angle of the woman’s body,” Laino says.

Feel like your partner’s penis or dildo is poking you in an annoying way? The pillow can tilt your pelvis to a more comfortable position, Laino says. And, if you struggle with lower back pain, the pillow can take pressure off that area to make sex more comfortable.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

While a sex pillow looks pretty basic, you can use it a bunch of different ways. The standard is via a ramped-up missionary position, with your butt on the pillow and your hips in the air. But you can also flip over so that your stomach is on the pillow and your butt is in the air for a version of doggy style that takes pressure off of your wrists and hands.

It’s not just for you—if your partner has a penis, he can prop his butt up with the pillow to bring a whole new angle into the mix.

OKAY, BUT DO I ACTUALLY NEED ONE?

Yeah, that’s kind of up to you. If you or your partner has some physical limitations, or your wrists and hands feel like total crap after doggy style, then it might be a good investment. Ditto if your partner has a small penis, or you just want to mix things up.

If not, then it’s tough to say. “The best thing to do is to purchase one and see if you like it,” Laino says. Unfortunately, we’re pretty sure that the store won’t take it back if you don’t like it since #bodilyfluids.

Bottom line: “Experiment with it and have fun with it,” Laino says. Who knows? You could end up being a major fan.
