Pimples are small red bumps that are not contagious, and can appear anywhere on the body. They can be painful when they are hard and inflamed. Other possible causes of a pimple-like bumps include irritation from something your skin has come in contact with (contact dermatitis), such as clothing or even residue from some laundry detergents. However, sometimes pimple-like bumps on the skin can be caused from ingrown hair (folliculitis) particularly if they appear on an area that you shave. Another possibility is that the bumps are due to a virus (Molluscum contagiosum) which is contagious.
It’s important to know the cause as the treatment will be different for each skin condition. We recommend that you make an appointment with your health care provider so you can get treated and feel better.
