Spotted: A Starbucks Cup in 'Game of Thrones' Last Night

Warning: This article is dark and full of Game of Thrones Season 8 spoilers.

Allow us to set the scene: Having emerged victorious from the Battle of Winterfell — the Great War against the Night King and the army of the undead — and paying tribute to the lives they lost along the way, the Dragon Queen Daenerys, Jon Snow and the remaining, drained heroes in the north have gathered for an initially tense meal. Throughout the night, though, the mood lightens as they eat and imbibe on an excess of wine. Well, except for Jon, who apparently traveled far into the future to pick up a grande hot coffee from Starbucks?

Following the airing of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4, viewers spotted what appeared to be a Starbucks cup left on the table during the the scene when Tormund and co. are celebrating Jon Snow’s dragon-riding badassery, as Dany brew-ds in the background.

Three questions immediately come to mind: What flavor is it? Whose is it? And was this intentional?

Verge’s senior editor has a plausible theory, tweeting that it might be the cinematographer’s sneaky way to address and poke a little fun at fans’ outcries that the previous episode was too damn dark.

“1. After last week’s #GameOfThrones, the cinematographer had to fight off criticism that it was too dark and people couldn’t see,” Vlad Savov writes. “2. So this week he inserts an offending Starbucks cup into dark scene. 3. People spot the cup, cinematographer vindicated.”

We’re on board with this theory, as are many other viewers who took to Twitter last night to joke about the cup.

Props, Game of Thrones.
