For many people, the main concern for blood pressure is having high blood pressure due to its link to heart attacks. However many are unaware of the dangers of having low blood pressure and what impacts that could have on your health. The music legend discusses his health scare due to the condition.
Simon Cowell made the news in October last year, not for the latest news relating to Britain’s Got Talent or X Factor, but rather for reasons relating to his health. The British star was rushed to hospital after falling down the stairs because of his low blood pressure.
For many people, the main concern for blood pressure is having high blood pressure due to its link to heart attacks. But many are unaware of the dangers of having low blood pressure and what impacts that could have on your health.
Cowell said of that experience: “I’d gone to get some hot milk because I felt ropey. On the way back upstairs, I just remember feeling dizzy.
“Next thing I know someone was putting a neck brace on me.
“I had a terrible headache, which must of been from me hitting the stairs. Sometimes we get a reminder that we’re not invincible and this was certainly mine.
“It was a huge shock.”
He added to The Sun at the time: “I have got to really take care of myself to sort it out. After all I am a dad and have more responsibility that ever.”

Simon Cowell has vowed to make changes to his lifestyle for the sake of his three-year old son Eric.
Natural changes you could make to improve your low blood pressure include:
- Limiting alcohol
- Drinking more water
- Eating small meals more often
- Wearing compression stockings
Causes of low blood pressure could be dehydration – when the body is not getting enough water or nutritional deficiencies.
Other causes could be severe infections, allergic reactions or a fall in the blood volume and could possibly be due to a serious medical disorder.
It is important to speak with your GP about your symptoms and he/she may recommend some blood tests to check your general health such as a electrocardiogram (ECG).
If you are not experiencing any of the symptoms, low blood pressure should not be a cause for concern as low blood pressure can also be an indicator of good health.
