First Look At The New AFL Women's Uniforms

The eight AFL Women’s teams are gearing up for the beginning of their first season in early 2017. Some of the players worked with designers from COAR (Cotton On’s Active Range) to create performance-enhancing, good-looking uniforms for all the teams in the league.

“Year 2017 heralds a new chapter in Australian Football and we didn’t just want to replicate the men’s uniform,” says AFL General Manager Commercial Operations Darren Birch. “It was important that we created a product the players felt authentically represented them on and off the field.”

The uniforms are more feminine than those the men’s teams wear, and the socks are shorter because the women will be playing in summer. “We wanted to bring some Cotton On fun and fashion to the gear as well,” says COAR product manager Kylie Rees.

Proudly wearing her new uniform at the launch, Melbourne FC player Daisy Pearce – one of the players who helped design the range, along with Carlton’s Lauren Arnell and the Western Bulldogs’ Aasta O’Connor – said, “It [AFL Women’s] feels real now. I look at the offside [gear] and think, that’s something I’d wear on the weekend.”

Sports brand New Era will be the official headwear partner for the league.

The inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition commences in February 2017.
